mens cargo hiking trousers

American workwear cargo trousers in a 90% nylon and 10% spandex ripstop grid fabric, light, tear-resistant and finished with a water-repellent coating that handles light rain and wet grass. The 10% spandex gives real stretch for squatting, kneeling and climbing, and the grid weave stops small snags from tearing further. The cut is a loose straight leg built from 3D curved panels that skim the hip and thigh and straighten the line of the leg, with drawcords at both the waist and the hem — so you can wear them straight or cinched at the ankle. Two zipped 3D side pockets hold a phone, wallet or keys securely, and the stitching is reinforced at the stress points. Mustard yellow, unisex, S–3XL. MOQ 100 pieces, sampling 7–10 working days, bulk 25–40 days.

Men’s American Workwear Cargo Trousers — Water-Repellent, Straight Leg, Made to Move

Why these trousers

There is a pair of trousers that does everything: you wear them to work on Monday, to a hike on Saturday, and out for dinner on Friday, and they look right in all three places. These are those trousers — American workwear styling, hiking-trouser function, and a loose straight leg that reads as intentional rather than oversized.

They are the “paratrooper” kind of cargo trouser: wide through the leg, roomy through the seat, held by a drawstring waist rather than a fixed belt, with zip pockets that keep your phone and keys safe. Whether you are commuting, travelling, camping or just walking around town, they are the pair that requires no thought.

Fabric: light, tough, and grid-reinforced

The trousers are made from a grid-pattern fabric — 90% nylon with 10% spandex.

Nylon is why they last. Nylon has excellent tensile strength and abrasion resistance, so the fabric resists tearing, scuffing and snagging. That is what makes these trousers work outdoors: pushing through brush, kneeling on rock, sitting on rough ground, brushing against a pack. It also resists the wear that shows up first on workwear — the seat, the knees and the pocket edges.

The grid structure adds ripstop performance. The fabric is woven with a fine grid pattern, which is the structure used in ripstop fabrics: if the cloth is cut or snagged, the grid lines stop the tear from running. In practice, a small tear stays small instead of turning into a split — which is exactly what you want in a pair of trousers that goes near rocks, branches and campfires.

The 10% spandex gives it movement. Ten per cent spandex is a meaningful amount: it gives the trousers a soft, real stretch, so squatting, kneeling, stepping up and cycling are comfortable rather than restricted, and the fabric recovers afterwards. The trousers do not stay stretched at the knee or bag at the seat.

The water-repellent coating. The surface has a water-repellent finish, so light rain, wet grass and splashes bead and roll off rather than soaking in. That keeps the trousers dry for the short term — a shower on the way home, a wet walk, sitting on damp ground — and keeps them lighter than they would be if the fabric absorbed water.

Light and breathable. The fabric is light rather than heavy, and it is woven to let air move, so you do not overheat wearing them indoors or in mild weather. Combined with the wind blocking of a tightly woven synthetic, the effect is a pair of trousers that feels comfortable in a wide temperature range: they keep the wind off your legs without turning into a hot, damp layer.

The grid texture. The fine grid is not only functional — it gives the surface a subtle texture and a matte finish, which is what makes the fabric look like workwear rather than like shiny shell fabric. It photographs with depth, and it hides scuffs better than a flat surface.

Design and fit

The waist. The waist is elasticated with a drawstring, which is why these trousers fit so many body shapes: the elastic provides range, and the drawstring lets you set the fit exactly. You do not need a belt, and there is no metal buckle to press into your stomach when you sit or bend. The drawstring is a black-and-white contrast woven cord, which lifts the waistband visually and gives the trousers a small design detail.

The 3D curved panels. The trousers are built from curved, three-dimensional panels rather than flat front and back pieces. This is the construction detail that shapes the fit: the panels curve around the hip and thigh so the fabric follows the body’s line, which hides the hip width, skims the calf and straightens the look of the leg. It is also why the trousers hang smoothly rather than pulling across the front.

The straight wide leg. The leg is cut straight and wide, which is the silhouette that flatters most leg shapes. It does not cling, it does not show the shape of the thigh, and it creates a clean vertical line that makes the leg look longer. That vertical line is also the reason this cut works for almost everyone: it balances the body’s proportions rather than emphasising a particular area.

The adjustable hem. The hem has its own drawcord, so you can wear the trousers two ways: open and straight for a relaxed, flowing leg, or cinched at the ankle for a tapered, sportier look that keeps the hem clear of the ground. Two looks from one pair of trousers is a genuine advantage for a buyer, because it covers both the streetwear customer and the hiking customer.

The pockets. Two large 3D side pockets, both with zips. Zipped pockets are the ones you can trust: a phone, wallet, keys or passport goes in and stays in, even when you sit, climb or ride. The pockets are built out from the leg rather than lying flat, which gives the cargo silhouette and adds real capacity — gloves, a notebook, a trail snack.

Reinforced stitching. The seams are reinforced at the stress points — the pocket openings, the seat, the crotch and the hem — with even, secure stitching. On a pair of trousers designed for outdoor use, that reinforcement is what decides whether they last one season or several.

The colours. The featured colourway is mustard yellow, a retro tone that reads as vintage workwear and stands out in a good way. It is a colour that works with black, white, navy, brown and denim, and it is the version that photographs best. The same style can be produced in black, khaki, olive, grey, brown or navy, and because the trousers are unisex, they work as a couple’s or family set.

Sizing

The trousers run from S to 3XL. Sizing is based on waist relaxed, waist stretched, hip, thigh, knee, leg opening, inseam and total length, measured flat without stretching, and the size guide lists everything in centimetres and inches. Because the waist is elastic with a drawstring, both the relaxed and stretched waist measurements are shown, so customers can see the full range of each size. The straight cut means the inseam decides where the hem sits, so it is worth checking against a pair you already own.

Where to wear them

Everyday and commuting. With a T-shirt, a hoodie or a work shirt and trainers or boots. The loose straight leg reads as deliberate casual wear, and the zip pockets are useful on a busy day.

Hiking and camping. The ripstop grid, the abrasion resistance, the water-repellent finish and the stretch make these a genuine light hiking trouser. The adjustable hem keeps them out of the mud on wet ground.

Travel. Zip pockets and a drawstring waist are exactly what you want when travelling: nothing falls out, nothing digs in, and they are comfortable for a long flight.

Street and casual. The mustard yellow colourway, the contrast drawcord and the wide leg make them a strong streetwear piece — they work with a boxy tee, a work jacket or a hoodie, and they look intentional rather than plain.

Washing and care

Because the fabric has a water-repellent coating and a high spandex content, the washing instructions matter — heat and bleach are what destroy both.

How to wash. Cold gentle machine wash, or hand wash, at 30°C or below. Turn the trousers inside out, close all zips before washing (this reduces friction and stops the zips damaging the fabric), and put them in a laundry bag if washing with other garments.

Soaking. Do not soak them for long. If you pre-soak, keep it to 30 minutes maximum — prolonged soaking affects the coating and the stretch.

Detergent. Use a mild, neutral detergent. Do not use bleach or detergents containing bleaching ingredients: bleach damages both the fibres and the water-repellent finish, and it turns dark and mustard colourways patchy.

Drying. Hang them to dry in a shaded, ventilated place. Avoid direct strong sunlight for long periods: UV degrades the water-repellent coating and fades the colour. Do not tumble dry on high heat.

Ironing. Do not iron at high temperature, and avoid pressing the coated surface directly — heat damages the coating. If you must press them, use low heat with a cloth between the iron and the fabric, and press on the reverse.

Dry cleaning. Dry cleaning is not recommended — the solvents affect the water-repellent coating.

Re-proofing. If the water-repellent finish stops beading after a long period of use, wash the trousers as above and apply a spray-on water-repellent treatment to the clean, damp surface, following the product instructions.

Storage. Store them dry and folded, with the zips closed.

Questions buyers usually ask

Are they waterproof? They are water-repellent: they handle light rain, wet grass and splashes. They are not designed for prolonged heavy rain.

Do they restrict movement? No. The 10% spandex gives real stretch, and the loose cut has room through the thigh and seat.

Will the ripstop grid really stop tears? The grid structure resists tearing and stops small snags from running, which is the point of a ripstop weave.

Can the hem be adjusted? Yes. Both the waist and the hem have drawcords, so you can wear them straight or cinched at the ankle.

Can I add my logo? Yes. Embroidery, woven labels, printed labels and patches can all be applied, along with your own hangtag and packaging.

For buyers

100 pieces per colourway, with mixed sizes (S–3XL) accepted in one order. Sampling takes 7–10 working days per round, and bulk production runs 25–40 days after sample approval and deposit.
