Girls’ Pleated Sweater Dress
Girls’ beige knit sweater dress with a shirt collar, three-button placket and a pleated skirt hem. Long sleeves and a soft knit body make it warm for autumn and winter without bulk, so it layers under a coat and stays comfortable indoors. The collar is interfaced to hold its shape, and the pleats are heat-set to keep their line. Worn with tights or knee socks it works for school and family occasions. Beige is matched to Pantone on the yarn, so repeat orders stay consistent, and the dress can be customized with chest, sleeve or hem embroidery, a woven or printed logo and branded buttons. Sizes 2T–12Y. MOQ 100 pieces, sampling 7–10 working days, bulk 25–40 days.
This is a girls’ knit sweater dress in beige, made for autumn and winter. It has long sleeves, a shirt collar and a three-button placket at the neck, and the lower half finishes with a pleated skirt hem that gives the dress movement and a smarter look than a plain knit dress. Worn with tights or knee socks it works as a school or occasion dress, and with leggings underneath it is warm enough for colder days. The knit body is soft and warm without bulk, so it layers under a coat and still feels comfortable indoors. Beige sits easily next to ivory, brown and denim in a collection, and it is the colour parents choose for family photographs. Sizes run 2T–12Y, and can be graded to your own size chart. MOQ is 100 pieces per colourway.

Why buyers choose this style
A sweater dress is one of the most reliable autumn and winter items in girlswear, because one garment covers a whole outfit. Parents buy it because it looks put together without any effort, and children wear it because a knit dress does not restrict movement the way a stiff woven dress does. It sells from September through to February in most markets, which makes it a long-season item rather than a single-month novelty.
The collar and the pleated hem are what lift this style above a plain knit dress. The collar makes it appropriate for school and family occasions, and the pleats give the skirt part a shape and a swing that shows in photographs. Together they let the same dress be sold as everyday wear and as an occasion piece.
For the buyer, the style is easy to build into a programme. The same shape can be sold in beige as a core colour, in a seasonal shade, or with an embroidered logo for a brand collection. The fit, the collar shape, the pleat depth and the embroidery placement are fixed on an approved sample, so a repeat order matches the first. With a 100-piece MOQ, a 7–10 day sample and a 25–40 day bulk lead time, it is a low-risk style to test.
The design: shirt collar, three-button placket and pleated hem
The collar is a shirt collar, cut and interfaced so it stands neatly at the neck instead of curling at the points. The shape is confirmed on the sample, because a collar that is a few millimetres out of balance reads as untidy on a child, and it is the first thing a parent notices in a photograph.
The neck closes with three buttons on a short front placket. Three buttons are enough to open the neckline for dressing and to keep it closed and neat when the dress is worn, and the spacing is set so the placket lies flat without gaping between the buttons. Buttonholes are worked with a clean, reinforced edge so they do not stretch with daily use.
Buttons can be supplied in a matched beige, a contrast tone, or a natural-look material such as corozo, depending on the look you want. On children’s wear, the button is also a safety point: it must be attached with a lock stitch and pull-tested, so it cannot come off in a child’s hand. Button strength is checked during inspection on every size.
The lower half is a pleated skirt hem. The pleat depth, the number of pleats and the direction are set to your design, and the pleats are heat-set so they hold their shape rather than flattening out. Knife pleats give a crisp, uniform line, while a softer pleat or an accordion pleat gives more movement. The pleated panel is joined to the knit body at a waist seam, which is worked with a soft cover stitch so there is no ridge under a coat or against the body.

Knit body and pleated skirt construction
The body is knitted in a soft yarn with enough weight to be warm in autumn and winter without looking bulky. The knit gives the dress the stretch that children need: it goes on easily, it moves with the body, and it recovers after wearing, so the dress does not look stretched at the elbows or the seat.
The waist join is the detail that decides whether the dress hangs well. The knit body and the pleated panel have different weights and different stretch, so the seam has to be stabilised, and the panel has to be cut so the pleats sit evenly around the body. On the sample we check that the skirt hangs straight, that the pleats are balanced at the sides and the back, and that the waist seam does not pull when the child sits down.
Pleat retention is tested after washing. Heat-set polyester blends hold pleats very well; cotton-rich blends hold a softer pleat and may need reshaping after a wash. If your market wants pleats that stay sharp after many washes, we recommend a polyester-rich pleated panel or a permanent pleat finish, and this is decided before the bulk fabric is ordered.
Beige: an easy colour to merchandise
Beige is one of the easiest colours to sell in girlswear because it works with everything: ivory, brown, rust, denim and black. It photographs in a soft, neutral way, which suits lookbook and social content, and it does not show light dust the way a very dark colour can.
Colour is dyed on the yarn and matched to your Pantone reference, and the shade is checked under D65 light before knitting. The knit and any contrast trims are ordered in the same dye lot, so the collar, the body and the placket do not differ in shade under shop lighting. Where a collection needs variety, the same dress can be developed in ivory, camel, dusty blue or a seasonal shade using the same yarn and pattern.

Embroidery and brand logo customization
The dress is a good base for brand customization because there is space on the chest and on the skirt panel. A logo can be applied as chest embroidery, a small embroidery on the sleeve or the hem, a woven label, or a printed label, depending on how the brand wants to be presented.
Embroidery on a knit needs the right support. A cutaway or tear-away stabiliser is used so the stitches do not pucker the front of the dress, the stitch count is controlled so the fabric keeps its softness, and the embroidered panel is washed during finishing so any shrinkage or distortion appears before bulk, not after packing. Thread colours are matched to your reference, and a stitch-out is approved before production.
For a brand logo, we can also produce woven labels, printed neck labels, hangtags and branded buttons, so the whole presentation matches: the label, the placket and the packaging carry the same identity.
Fit, length and sizes
The dress is cut with a comfortable body, a shaped armhole and enough room in the shoulder for a layer underneath. Grading, body length, sleeve length, collar size, placket length and pleat depth are developed to your own size chart. The skirt can be finished above the knee or at the knee, depending on the market and the age range. Reference sizes 2T–12Y, confirmed on the order.

Fabric and care
The yarn is a soft knit chosen for warmth and hand feel, in a cotton-rich or cotton/acrylic blend. Where the market requires it, the yarn and the finished dress can be tested for colourfastness, pilling, shrinkage and fibre composition, and certified yarn can be sourced for buyers who need it.
Care instructions are written for a knit dress with pleats: wash inside out in a laundry bag on a gentle cycle at low temperature, dry flat rather than in a tumble dryer, reshape the pleats while the dress is damp, and iron on the reverse at low temperature if needed. The dress is tested after the same wash cycle the customer will use, so the care label reflects real results rather than a standard sentence.

Sampling and production timeline
- Inquiry. Send a photo, a sketch or a tech pack.
- Yarn. Confirm the yarn, the beige shade and the hand feel, 3–7 days.
- Pattern. Fit, collar shape, pleat depth and skirt length, 2–3 days.
- Sample. First sample with collar, buttons and pleats, 7–10 working days per round.
- Approval. Your sign-off on fit, colour, collar, pleats and embroidery.
- Bulk. Production, 25–40 days after approval and deposit.
- Shipment. Final inspection and packing, then sea, air or express.
Most knitwear styles are approved in two rounds: the first sample confirms the fit, the collar and the pleat depth, and the second confirms the yarn, the shade and the embroidery. A pre-production sample is approved before bulk knitting starts.

Quality control, stage by stage
- Yarn checked before knitting, including shade and hand feel.
- Panels measured during knitting, including the pleated panel.
- Collar balance, placket alignment and button spacing checked during sewing.
- Button pull test on every size.
- Pleat retention checked after washing.
- Embroidery checked for density, backing and placement.
- Measurement, colour and label verification, then needle detection and final inspection.
Minimum order quantity
The MOQ is 100 pieces per colourway, and mixed sizes within one colour are accepted, so a 100-piece order can cover a full size run. This applies across our whole range, which lets buyers test the fit and the sell-through before placing a larger order. Custom dyed yarn, custom pleat setting or special buttons may require a higher quantity, confirmed at quotation stage.
What we need from you
- A clear photo, a sketch, a sample from another market or a full tech pack.
- Your size range and grading, or we can develop one and send it for approval.
